Originally Southborough, or South Frirth as it was historically known, was a large aristocratic deer park that formed part of the Lowry of Tonbridge, linked to the Tudor Boleyn family and later Elizabeth 1st favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester.
Today this urban village attracts families, down sizers, investors and first-time buyers alike owing to its proximity to Royal Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, lush open green spaces, amenities, schools and thriving community spirit.
Local Life
The busy high street and common are the hub of Southborough. For foodies a trip to The 26 by the common offers innovative seasonal menus, The Hand & Sceptre offers al fresco summer dining in it’s courtyard and accommodation. The Imperial Bar is a traditional Victorian pub with an Italian twist and restaurant. For a real treat visit Earl Grey Tearooms for their cakes and pancakes, the family owned Rusbridge bakery and Temper Temper Chocolate for chocolate parties, workshops and goodies. And the family run Southborough Butchers.
On the doorstep we have historic Salomans Estate, a Victorian mansion set in 36 acres of gardens, parkland and woods and their popular bistro. Pennington Grounds boosts tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, outdoor table tennis and crazy golf. The Common has been home to the local cricket club for 200 years and sits next door to 75-acres of woodland.
There are various local clubs, organisations and societies including 3 local football clubs and local scout, girl guides and brownies groups that meet at St Thomas’ church. Chimera rock climbing centre is based at the Haslmore High Brooms Industrial Estate, and the 579 Field Squadron Army Cadets base and Tunbridge Wells Fusion Lifestyle Sport Centre are both on London Road.
Knights Park industrial estate is less than 3 miles drive for cinema, ten pin bowling, retail and restaurants, and Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Gym. For something a little different head to Sky Birds of Prey off Vauxhall Lane for experience days.Travel
